This Week’s MAKERSPACE Project: Artbots!

Each week the Vancouver Community Library does a Makerspace event put on by gracious host, Jamie. Jamie’s projects are always super casual, informative and a lot of fun! She fosters a welcoming, creative environment which allows adults and children alike to tap into hidden creative talents. Tinkering is the theme of these workshops, and the idea is to learn, ask, create, reflect, and share.

This week Jamie taught us how to make artbots, and let me tell you, these pool noodle doodlers are a super easy, outrageously fun project for all ages. Using a chunk of a pool noodle, some markers, an electric toothbrush, duct tape, and of course, googley eyes, Makers were able to bring their own robotic artists to life. Each adorabot creates unique, multi-color designs that can be manipulated by adjusting marker height and overall weight of the bot. It is so fascinating to watch them dance around, drawing on the tabletop.

I highly recommend visiting the Fort Vancouver Regional Library’s calendar of events and getting in on the action. Space fills up fast, so be sure to get there a few minutes early to get a good seat. Happy making!
